It's Official - FEMA Accreditation for the Country Club Flood Mitigation Project

45 more properties now out of the floodplain

Post Date:12/12/2016 8:15 am

The Country Club has seen additional improvements to flood protection since 2009, and has now been formally accredited by FEMA in the form of a Letter of Map Revision (LOMR), effective November 11, 2016.

More Details on the Country Club Flood Mitigation Project

  • 45 properties generally from 18th Ave N to Country Club Parkway between 11th St N and the Red River that were touched by the 100-year floodplain.
  • 12 of the properties had one or more structures touched by the 100-year floodplain (including one structure with 8 residential condominium units).
  • The LOMR will eliminate FEMA’s requirement for mandatory flood insurance for properties with a federally-insured mortgage.
  • Property owners will be able to purchase voluntary flood insurance, and are encouraged to do so.
  • Property insurance agents are the best qualified to answer questions about flood insurance.

City Engineer Dr. Bob Zimmerman reports that the Country Club accreditation is the third of four FEMA accreditation requests planned for the floodplain managed by the City of Moorhead.  The City has removed 247 homes from the floodplain through acquisition and demolition or relocation since 2009, and the Letters of Map Revision for accredited flood mitigation projects removed another 199 existing properties from the 100-year floodplain in the Horn Park, Woodlawn, and Country Club neighborhoods, for a total of 446 at-risk properties removed from the 100-year floodplain since 2009.
