On January 27, 2018, at approximately 0011 hours, a Moorhead Officer made a traffic stop on a vehicle near Romkey Park.  He identified both the driver and the passenger in the vehicle and went back to confirm their driving status and checked for warrants.  He learned the passenger had an outstanding warrant for Gross Misdemeanor DWI. As officers were approaching the vehicle a second time, the passenger forced the driver (owner of the vehicle) out of his car and sped off.  The pursuit started in the Romkey Park area, went south on 20 St to I-94 where it went west into Fargo.  It exited off at University Dr and ended up in a snowbank in the 1300 block of 15 St S in Fargo.  Minnesota State Patrol assisted in the pursuit and Fargo Police assisted in the arrest of the driver.

The owner of the vehicle knew the suspect but wanted him charged with stealing his vehicle.  The driver has been identified as Nathan Smith (26) from Moorhead.  He is being held at the Cass County Jail on the following charges:

1. Theft of Motor Vehicle
2. Robbery
3. Fleeing in a Motor Vehicle
4. Reckless Driving
5. Driving After Revocation
6. No Seatbelt
