Make Moorhead Home Tax Rebate Program Extended through 2020

Two-year property tax rebate on newly constructed homes

The City of Moorhead, Moorhead Area Public Schools, and Clay County approved an extension of the Make Moorhead Home Property Tax Rebate through 2020. The program provides an incentive for new home construction, which expands the tax base permanently after the two-year rebate period concludes. 

Buyers of newly constructed homes will receive a rebate of all general taxes paid for the first two years tax payable years after their home is completed and the property is fully valued for tax purposes. There is no minimum value on the rebate program, and both land and building are included in the valuation. The rebate does not affect special assessments or special levies.

In the past 5 years since the program began, over 800 homes have utilized the program for a combined tax value of over $200 million, generating cumulative tax revenues of approximately $2.5 million.
