Moorhead Flood 2019 Update - Traffic Impacts

Second crest may delay bridges and streets reopening

Post Date:04/15/2019 2:41 pm

As a result of the April 11/12 snow event, the river is forecast to rise to a second crest near 32 feet this coming weekend. This will delay re-opening of the Broadway bridge, 15 Ave N bridge, 1 Ave N bridge and underpass, and Rivershore Drive at I-94. Based on the current forecast, these bridges and streets are expected to remain closed for more than a week and possibly two weeks.

Even after you notice the river level decreasing, understand that it will take some time to remove sediments and debris deposited by the river. In addition, the 1 Ave N underpass must be drained slowly over a period of several days to maintain riverbank stability and avoid failure of the levee that protects it. The City will be closely monitoring the river and will open bridges and streets as soon as it is safe to do so.

Please drive safely, provide additional time to reach your travel destination, and stay up to date on latest on flood-related traffic impacts in Moorhead.
