At 1:33 am on September 9th, 2020, the Moorhead Fire Department was dispatched to a fire in a single family residence at 415 Sunrise Circle. Crews arrived to find smoke at the front entry to the home. Two adults, four children and one of two dogs had evacuated the building without injury. Firefighters fully extinguished the fire and found the remaining dog unharmed during a search of the home.
Working smoke alarms in the house provided early warning to the residents of the fire and allowed the family to evacuate. Once outside, one of the adults was able to safely apply water from a garden hose to the fire prior to the arrival of fire crews. Most of the damage was limited to siding and external construction around the front entrance with minor smoke and water damage on the main floor of the home.
The American Red Cross is providing housing assistance for the displaced residents. Initial damage is estimated at $15,000. The cause of the fire has been ruled accidental due to improper disposal of smoking materials.
