Moorhead Public Service (MPS) is warning customers of a payment scam. MPS has been contacted by numerous customers, specifically business/commercial customers, who have received telephone calls from individuals attempting to collect payment.
The individuals are claiming to work for Moorhead Public Service and threaten to disconnect service if payment is not made within a specific time period. This call is NOT from Moorhead Public Service. This call is a scam.
MPS contacts customers with past due balances by phone to offer payment options; however, MPS does NOT demand direct payment over the telephone and does NOT use threatening tactics to obtain payment.
MPS advises that customers receiving a call such as the one described above, or any call from Moorhead Public Service that seems suspicious, should not provide the caller with any financial information. Please hang up and call MPS at 218.477.8000.
