Neighborhood Tree Trimming Area

WINTER 2011 -- MID FEBRUARY UNTIL MID APRIL (FLOOD RELATED DUTIES MAY SHORTEN THE TRIMMING SEASON)

The area encompassing Main Avenue south to 8th Avenue from 8th Street west to 5th Street will be trimmed by the end of the 2011 season.

The area from Main Avenue south to 3rd Avenue from 8th Street east to 11th Street will be trimmed until season ends.

A two block area of 17th and 18th Street South between 20th to 24th Avenue South will be trimmed until season ends.

An attempt will be made to trim Brookdale Road and Rivershore Drive south of 24th Avenue South until season ends.

Attempts to trim in a few selected areas where medium age trees are causing conflicts with City vehicles will also be made until the end of the season.

City tree trimming within the pruning cycle area means every tree on the boulevard will be inspected and trimmed as necessary. The main trimming goals are the removal of branches that are dead, broken and hanging, diseased, cankered, rubbing or otherwise comprised so as to pose a risk to the public safety. The crowns of trees will also be raised to provide adequate clearance for streets, sidewalks, building roofs, nearby trees, and to improve sight lines at intersections. Young trees are structurally pruned to select a leader and improve branch structure as the tree matures.

Trimming notification for the affected neighborhood areas is done by means of a yellow door hanger. This web page will also be updated with selected trimming areas throughout the year.

Neighborhood cycle trimming is only done during the dormancy period (November through early April). Citizen generated trimming requests are completed throughout the year, with the majority occurring in the late spring through summer months. Citizen generated trimming requests are prioritized based on risk to safety, as some requests are completed immediately and others are compiled on a trimming list to be completed within the scope of other tree related duties.

Other tree trimming information can be found elsewhere on this City of Moorhead website.
