"Two years ago, with the City's help, we doubled the size of our salon. We added private space for selling cranial prostheses, hair pieces, scarves, wigs and hats to clients experiencing hair loss. I qualified for an economic development program that helped me expand, and the process was smooth. It was easy to work with city staff, not a lot of red tape.

"In January, we'll be celebrating 20 years here in downtown Moorhead. I love doing business here. The people — and the business climate — are very friendly. Some people have told me through the years that I should move my business to Fargo. They thought that the growth potential was better there, but through the years I've witnessed that the city and the state of Minnesota have leveled the playing field in doing business in this metropolitan community.

"My advice is to go with the city of Moorhead. See what your options are in terms of locations and programs. There's a lot of help out there."

Vi Deilke opened 621 Center for Hair in 1983. The full service salon specializes in services for men and women undergoing cancer treatments or other medical care that result in hair loss. In 2000, Vi utilized a city program to expand her store at 621 Center Avenue in Moorhead.
