Bergquist Pioneer Cabin |

The Bergquist cabin, built in 1870 by Swedish immigrant John Bergquist,
is the oldest house in Moorhead still on its original site. The cabin is
open each year during the Scandinavian Hjemkomst Festival in June, and

The Comstock House is an 1882 Victorian Home with the original furnishings
of Moorhead pioneer Solomon G. Comstock. A state senator, Comstock is considered
the founder of Moorhead State University, and with his wife Sarah, was
instrumental in establishing the first public library in Moorhead. |

The Historical & Cultural Society of Clay County provides interpretation of the Hjemkomst Viking Ship, Hopperstad Stave Church Replica, Red River Valley Exhibition and hosts traveling exhibits in 7,000 square feet of temporary exhibition space. The Historical & Cultural Society of Clay County is a community resource for 150,000 people in the Fargo-Moorhead metro area, and serves an average of 40,000 visitors from all over the world.

Historic Log Cabin |

The log cabin was built in 1859 along the Red River and served as a
stagecoach stop on the Minnesota Stage Company's route. In 1878 Charles
Whitcomb bought the cabin and moved it to 10th Street North in Moorhead.
In 1933 former Parks Director Adolph Bowman and the Moorhead Garden Club
moved the cabin to its current location. In 1999, local artists, Gloria
Weisgram, Gary Paulsen and the City of Moorhead began to use it as a folk
art center. |

Ruby Pontoon Boat Ride Tours |

and family. A knowledgeable captain will chronicle the history, geography
and wildlife that live in and along the river. S.S. Ruby can be boarded
on the Red River under the 1st Avenue North Bridge adjacent to the Hjemkomst

The S.S. Ruby is available for birthdays, family reunions or company
outings. Tours are available mid May through September. Schedule subject

Canoe/Kayak/Bike Rentals
Rent a canoe, kayak, or bike and experience the Red River in downtown
Fargo-Moorhead first-hand via the Red River or the riverfront trails! Various sized
canoes, single or tandem kayaks, and 1, 2 or 4 passenger bikes available.

Hopperstad Stave Church Replica |

Our full-scale replica of Norway's Hopperstad Stave Church was the dream of local chemist, Guy Paulson. With the help of family and friends, Paulson organized the construction of the church over a span of five and a half years, carving the intricate Norwegian designs himself. The Stave Church is used for weddings, cultural and educational events, as well as guided tours.
Guests can view the film that tells the story as well as purchase the DVD in the Heritage Gift Shop.

Norwegian for "Homecoming"
In the early 1970s, Robert Asp, a Moorhead School guidance counselor, dreamed of building a replica Viking ship and sailing it to Norway, the land of his ancestors. Modeled after the Gokstad Viking Ship built around 800 A.D., the Hjemkomst was constructed in a potato warehouse in nearby Hawley, MN.
Guests can view the documentary film that tells the epic tale as well as purchase the DVD in the Heritage Gift Shop.
