Clarification on snow hauling from cul-de-sacs

Post Date:12/28/2021 2:31 pm

There have been some questions from Moorhead residents after the recent heavy snowfall about when City snowplows will push snow into the center of cul-de-sacs to remove later and when the snow in cul-de-sacs will be plowed in a circle onto boulevards and into driveways.

While pushing snow to the center of cul-de-sacs and hauling it away 1-2 weeks later is possible, it is not standard operating procedure and is only considered -- during and after major storms with more than 8i snowfall -– when necessary to maintain safe emergency access. Also, hauling snow away from the center of the City’s 240 cul-de-sacs costs nearly $150,000 per event.

The City of Moorhead will evaluate the situation after each major snowfall and determine the procedures that are most effective to get our streets cleared. Thank you for your patience and cooperation!
