Local Dog Retriever DeAnn Syverson Wins MoorHeart Award

Post Date:04/08/2024 7:30 pm

Congratulations to DeAnn Syverson! On April 8, 2024 the Moorhead City Council and Mayor Shelly Carlson presented her with the MoorHeart award.

DeAnn is committed to finding and rescuing lost dogs in the Fargo-Moorhead area! DeAnn dedicates hours of her life to safely retrieving animals in our community. DeAnn’s nomination includes the following statement:

“I want to nominate DeAnn Syverson for the MoorHeart Award for all the work she does in our community for the wellbeing and safety of dogs through her work at The Retrievers. The Retrievers is an all-volunteer team based in Minnesota offering the tools, experience, and expertise to help rescues and individual owners find their lost dogs. She is the only “retriever” in this area and will travel to the surrounding areas to set up live traps. DeAnn puts countless hours setting up live traps and luring lost dogs to safety. The longest DeAnn has sat on a trap is 18 hours. She devotes as much time as she can to ensure the dog gets to safety. This work benefits not only the health and safety of the lost dogs but also members of our community. In addition to devoting hours to setting traps and luring dogs to safety, she helps to educate residents on how to best handle any situation regarding a lost dog. We are a very animal oriented community and I’m so glad we have DeAnn to have such an impact!”

For all DeAnn does for Moorhead – and especially for the way she uses her love for dogs to serve our community– the MoorHeart selection committee chose DeAnn to receive the MoorHeart Award. Congratulations to DeAnn!

The MoorHeart award is an opportunity to recognize individuals who go above and beyond to demonstrate community within our City by their actions and service. A team of volunteers from city boards and commissions selects award recipients. The MoorHeart award is commemorated with a piece of art commissioned from local artist Dennis Krull especially for this purpose.

It's easy to nominate individuals/organizations for the MoorHeart award. Contributions large and small are worthy of nomination!
