Winter Recreation Activities

Enjoy winter with this comprehensive list of winter fun in Moorhead! Opportunities include ski and snowshoe rentals, outdoor and indoor skating, sledding hills, events and more!

Warming houses and activities will close if the temperature is -10 degrees or below, the wind chill is -30 degrees or below, or the ice is deemed unsafe/unskatable.

Winter Trails Day

Groomed trails await cross-country skiers and trail goers in the following park locations: Gooseberry, Homestead, River Oaks Point, M.B. Johnson, and Viking Ship Park (lighted trail).


Grooming Status: March 10, 2022- The trails between Bergquist Cabin (1008 7th St N) and 12th Ave S have been groomed.

Rental Equipment will be available at the Hjemkomst Center for use around Viking Ship Park. Not open on holidays. Days and times include:

Tuesday and Thursday

03/01/2022 - Hansmann, Ridgewood and Village Green warming houses will now be open through March 4.


Lace up your skates and join the fun at our outdoor ice skating rinks this winter! Seven of these facilities include a lighted general skating rink, hockey rink, and a heated shelter for changing skates and warming up.


Locations with warming houses and lights: Hansmann Park; Lamb Park; Morningside Park; Ridgewood Park; Riverview Estates Park; South Park; and Village Green Park


Additional Rinks: Alm Park (Lighted General Rink); Voll Park (General Rink); Trails at Stonemill Park ( Lighted General and Hockey Rink).


Rink and Warming House hours include:

Open Gym Information


Improve your basketball or volleyball skills with open courts and nets. Designated times for youth (15 and under); and adults (16 and over). Basketballs and volleyball will be available.This is a fee free program, no cost to participate!
