On Sunday, August 4, 2024, officers were dispatched to the 1000 block of Third Avenue North for a report of a stabbing. Upon arrival, officers located DeGroat with a stab wound to his chest. DeGroat was transported to Sanford Medical Center, where he later died.
The suspect, Connie Jo Frank, age 47, returned to the scene and was taken into custody. She is being held at the Clay County Correctional Facility and will be appearing in court today on 2nd Degree Murder charges. The victim and suspect were known to each other.
The case is ongoing, and the MN Bureau of Criminal Apprehension continues to assist in the investigation.
