Moorhead Police Department Detective Adam Torgerson has been formally recognized by the United States Attorney’s Office in Minneapolis for his exceptional investigative work on “Operation Nobody’s Home,” a major drug case with multiple arrests and federal prosecution that stemmed from a kidnapping case.
The complex investigation was a joint effort between Detective Torgerson, a Clay County Sheriff’s Office Detective, and a U.S. Postal Inspector. Their collaborative work revealed a dangerous operation led by Jamie White, who had previously been convicted on drug charges in a case also led by Detective Torgerson.
White was arrested after holding a woman captive in the basement of his home, restrained with duct tape for several hours while he went to work. The victim managed to escape, and Red River Valley SWAT assisted with his arrest. While awaiting trial, White continued his criminal activity by coordinating the delivery of large quantities of methamphetamine, nearly 9.5 pounds in one intercepted package, to vacant rental properties in the area. A controlled delivery led to the arrest of White and several accomplices. Detective Torgerson’s professionalism, investigative skill, and previous rapport with the suspect led to a full confession and a comprehensive case presentation to the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Minnesota, which ultimately agreed to prosecute, a significant step in strengthening cross-state collaboration.
Detective Torgerson’s work was one of only 18 cases recognized at a recent U.S. Attorney’s Office award ceremony in Minneapolis. He was also honored at the Moorhead City Council meeting on Monday, June 23.
The City and Moorhead Police Department congratulates Detective Torgerson on this well-deserved recognition and thanks him for his continued dedication to justice and community safety.
