The Moorhead Police Department will host a day-long traffic safety event on the first day of school, September 2, 2025. The event will be in memory of Adam Amin, who was the 9-year-old victim in a fatal motor vehicle crash on July 31, 2025. Adam was a student at S.G Reinertsen Elementary School and friend to many. The event will promote public awareness and ensure a safe return for students across the Moorhead Area Public Schools (MAPS) District.
The traffic safety event will feature a strong presence of officers and police volunteers at all MAPS schools during morning drop-off and afternoon pickup times. In addition, traffic enforcement details will be conducted throughout the day and evening across the city to encourage safe driving behavior.
The Moorhead Police Department, in collaboration with the Amin family, want to honor Adam’s memory by making our streets safer for everyone, especially our students. This event is about community, awareness, and responsibility.
The Moorhead Police Department will be assisted by other Minnesota law enforcement agencies. The public is encouraged to support the effort by:
- Slowing down in school zones and residential areas
- Obeying all stop signs and traffic lights
- Yielding to pedestrians
- Stopping for school buses when lights and stop signs are activated.
- Remaining patient amid traffic congestion and construction
The Moorhead Police Department and the City of Moorhead are committed to traffic safety every day of the year, but the first day of school is of particular importance. This event will repeat annually on the first day of school to reinforce the importance of traffic safety and community vigilance.
