Summer Youth Program

The Summer Youth Program (SYP) started in 1980 in an effort to get police and youth together in a positive non- threatening atmosphere.   The SYP provides up to 200 Moorhead youth between ages 8-12 a chance to gather with mentors from the Police Department, community, youth services and schools for lunch, an educational presentation and recreational activities once a week from noon to 4 pm. The program is designed for Moorhead youth who are not participating in other summer programs (drama, baseball, softball, etc.) and need activities to occupy their summer days. We want kids who will be able to attend most, if not all, of the activities.

Our Summer Youth Program will start and end each week at M.B. Johnson Park (3601 11 St N) in north Moorhead.  We will conduct programming at the park one week and going on field trips the other weeks.  Check back for this year's schedule of events.

Each participant will receive a t-shirt which must be worn each week. Participants are expected to behave and have loads of fun!

The program is offered free of charge. Money to fund the program comes from a grant from the Minnesota Department of Public Safety, Office of Justice Programs. Children must be 8 years of age at the time of registration and can be no older than 12 years of age.
